Parks Committee

The Parks Committee was re-formed in 2018, and has been meeting on the third Tuesday of every month since September of that year.

Vision Statement

The mission of the Parks Committee is to enhance Aurora's quality of life by providing safe, well-maintained parks and natural places for neighbors to gather, celebrate, contemplate and engage in activities that promote health and well-being, while strengthening the bonds of community and creating opportunities for renewal, growth and enrichment for current and future generations.

I've lived in Aurora since 1974. My children grew up on Main St and it was great having the Aurora Park so close. I love the village feeling of this small, quiet community which is close to nature. This is my second stint volunteering on the Parks Committee. The first Committee began around 2009 and worked to envision and create the current Aurora City Park. The Aurora Mills Park will be a beautiful wetland nature reserve located on the north side of town. It's a wonderful opportunity to work with other dedicated volunteers to give Aurora another park which will provide benefits to our community for generations to come.

I have lived in Keil Park in Aurora with my wife Sheila since 2006. We picked Aurora because we are both horticulturists, and prior to retirement I had been working as a Nursery Manager locally -- at Mahonia Nursery in Salem, at Klupenger Nursery in Aurora, and at IFA Nursery in Canby. We have always loved landscaping and gardening, and found the small community of Aurora a perfect fit for us. I joined the Parks Committee because I have worked
in the nursery industry all of my professional life and was interested in teaming up with other interested folks to help develop the Aurora Mills Park.

My vision statement for the Aurora Mills Park: I would like to see the park developed into a creative, enjoyable place for Aurora residents to reflect on the beauty and wonder of our natural environment.
