Jacob Johnson Hired as Public Utility Worker

The City of Aurora is pleased to announce that Jacob Johnson has been hired as a utility worker for its public works department.

Johnson grew up in Molalla and graduated from its high school in 2012. He took a temporary position in the City of Molalla’s public works department five years later. That inspired him to begin attending Clackamas Community College (CCC) to study wastewater systems.

“I thought it would be a cool job,” Johnson said.

While attending CCC, Johnson interned with the City of Canby’s public works department. He completed that internship just prior to starting with the City of Aurora as a part-time seasonal public works employee in May.

Johnson recently graduated from CCC with a two-year Associates in Applied Science in Water and Environmental Technologies. The City of Aurora offered him a permanent full-time position in the public works department earlier this week.

“We’re thrilled to have Jacob as part of our public works team,” City Recorder W. Scott Jorgensen said. “His education, experience and passion will serve the citizens of Aurora well.”

Over the long-term, Johnson said he would like to continue working in municipal wastewater systems. Many cities have systems that were built in the 1970s and 80s and are upgrading to newer technologies.

Johnson’s hobbies include playing the guitar, swimming and other outdoor recreation.
