Message from Mayor Asher Regarding Coronavirus

To our Aurora Community, I am sure you have been inundated the past few days with messages from local media on how to navigate through this time. I would like to take this opportunity to give you our local perspective, updates and resources.

Social media and phones provide a great avenue for communication and we encourage neighbors to communicate and help one another when they can. When it comes to buying resources that are in high demand, we ask you to consider the needs of the many over the needs of the few. Remember the City of Aurora is a city founded on communal living, taking care of one another, and helping each other in times of need.

The City of Aurora encourages the community to adhere to “social distancing” to help slow the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus). To help the professionals work on slowing and controlling the virus we urge everyone to take these preventative measures:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol
  • Avoid shaking hands
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing with the inside of your elbow or a tissue
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick
  • Stay home while you are sick
  • Work from home if possible

We understand that these precautions could cause hardship for those in our community and ask that we all take these measures seriously to protect the more vulnerable among us. We encourage everyone to take time to check in with your neighbors, especially our elderly. Spend time with your family and express gratitude for your health and the health of your loved ones.

I know we are all facing uncertain times and are concerned about our families, loved ones, neighbors, and community. Together we will weather this storm.

To further the cause, please participate in the community mapping project via Aurora Community Preparedness team with the information at the bottom of the page.

Thanks,

Brian Asher, Mayor
