City Utility Worker Accepts New Opportunity

After nearly three years of service to the City of Aurora and its citizens, Derek Shunn has accepted and moved on to another position.

Shunn, who grew up in Canby and graduated from its high school in 2006, has started a new job as a utility worker for the Oak Lodge Water District.

“I am grateful to the city for all that it has enabled me to do personally and professionally,” Shunn said. “Without the city’s aid, this opportunity would not have been a possibility. Thank you for allowing me to work and learn here.”

Prior to his stint with the city, Shunn worked for his family’s contracting business. He joined Aurora’s public works staff in 2015.

“I’ve really enjoyed working with Derek these last few years and am confident he will be a tremendous asset to the Oak Lodge Water District,” Public Works Superintendent Mark Gunter said. “We wish him all the best as he takes this next step in his life and career.”

The city is currently accepting applications for the utility worker position that became vacant upon Shunn’s recent departure. Applications can be access online at https://www.ci.aurora.or.us/jobs. The first review of applications will be conducted by city staff on Monday, July 30, and the position will remain open until filled.
