Aurora uses a “Strong Mayor” system, which means the Mayor is a voting member of the City Council. The Mayor's position is a two-year term that is voted on at each biennial General Election. Councilor positions are a four-year term and are also voted on each biennial General Election. They are all elected from the City at large.
Mayor Brian Asher
Brian Asher was appointed mayor on October 8, 2019. Prior to that, he served as the city councilor for position 2. And, in 2022, Asher was elected as mayor for a two-year term, beginning January 2023.
His past community involvement includes 22 years as a member of the Aurora Historical Society board of directors, with stints as its past treasurer and past president. Asher has also served on the board of the McLoughlin Historical Society and Rose Farm and as a past chair of the city’s Parks Committee.
All Council and Board positions are on a volunteer bases and we always want to remember and thank those that serve the community.
