Arraignment Procedures
When you appear in court, you have received a citation for a violation of either a Uniform Traffic Law or a Municipal Ordinance. This is an arraignment. Here you will go before the Judge and enter your plea to the charge for which you have been cited. There are two (2) options you may enter today: Not Guilty or No Contest.
- If you enter a No Contest plea, you will not be admitting that you’re guilty but that you do not wish to contest the offense. For traffic offenses, the matter will appear on your driving record as a conviction, you will be given an opportunity to speak on your behalf. A fine will be set by the Judge.
- If you enter a Not Guilty plea, the matter will be set for hearing in about 30 to 60 days. You will be notified by the Court Clerk by mail and must return on the date the Trial Notice indicates. Be sure to notify the Court Clerk if your address changes and if you plan on having an attorney present.
